After spending seasons with Notre Dame and Florida State, Showtime’s all-access college football series will head to Annapolis in 2017 to chronicle the Naval Academy football season.
“A Season with Navy Football” premieres Sept. 5 at 10 p.m. Eastern and Pacific, according to a Navy athletics news release. New episodes follow every Tuesday.
"It is an unbelievable opportunity for the Navy Football Brotherhood to be featured on Showtime," Navy head coach Ken Niumatalolo said in the release. "We are excited to showcase the Navy Football culture.”
The network produced the documentary ”A Game of Honor” in 2011 that tracked both Navy and Army West Point in the run-up to their annual rivalry game. It’s a part of the CBS media conglomerate: CBS-TV airs the Army-Navy game annually, and CBS Sports Network airs both Army’s and Navy’s home football games.
Niumatalolo begins his 10th season at the helm of the Midshipmen on Sept. 1 at Florida Atlantic. For the first time, he’ll enter the year seeking to avenge a loss in the Army-Navy game at the end of the schedule.
The Mids open their home slate against Tulane on Sept. 9.
