President Trump made it clear Thursday that he thinks the Navy should abandon plans for electromagnetic catapults for carrier aviation and return to the traditional steam-powered launch and recovery system, according to the president's interview with TIME.

When reached, Navy officials declined to comment on the president's remarks.

For years the Navy has struggled to get the new EMALS technology up and running on the USS Gerald R. Ford. But once complete, the move is expected to save the Navy an estimated $4 billion in maintenance costs over the course of the ship's 50-year lifetime, Navy officials say.

Which system — steam-powered vs. electromagnetic launch and recovery — do you think the Navy should use on its new Ford-class carriers?
