Memorial Day won't just be a time of reflection to honor those who have sacrificed their lives in the defense of the nation — though that's the primary purpose.
It will also be a time of celebration across the Navy force as the Navy announces the names of the over 25,000 active, reserve and full-time support sailors selected to advance into pay grades E-4 through E-6 today.
It was a banner cycle for advancements this time around as the chance to move up in all three pay grades increased across the total Navy force with more than 96,000 sailors competing for 25,050 advancement quotas, giving sailors a roughly 26 percent shot at moving up this cycle — a full percentage point increase from last fall's 24.5 percent, when 100,742 successful exam takers were competing for 24,628 advancement quotas.
