A Pennsylvania congressman who also is a Navy reservist helped save the life of a man found unconscious in a Washington office building.
Politico first reported Republican U.S. Rep. Tim Murphy helped the man Wednesday.
Murphy performed CPR, and a Capitol police officer used a defibrillator on the man who was found unconscious in an elevator Murphy had summoned. The man's breathing and pulse were restored.
Murphy tells the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette the victim is a "sweet gentle guy that delivers mail" to congressional offices.
Murphy says his mother taught him CPR years ago, but he became officially certified in CPR last year in the Navy Reserve.
"Commander Murphy currently serves in the Navy Reserve Medical Service Corps at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center at Bethesda," according to his congressional web page. "There he works as a Navy psychologist with service members with traumatic brain injury and post traumatic stress. His ADT has included service with Navy Special Warfare Coronado and on the USS Carl Vinson."
The congressman represents a Pittsburgh-area district.
