The command master chief of the San Diego-based destroyer Dewey was fired Thursday, Naval Surface Force Pacific said.
Capt. Lyle Stuffle, commodore of Destroyer Squadron 1, relieved CMDCM (SW/SCW) Joe Grgetich "due to his loss of confidence in Grgetich's ability to fulfill his role as the command master chief," SURFPAC said in a release.
The relief is tied to incidents that occurred prior to becoming Dewey's CMC and was not related to his job performance, said Lt. Rick Chernitzer, SURFPAC spokesman, who refused to specify what Grgetich may have done wrong, saying only that it related to "personal conduct."
Chernitzer said there are no currently no charges filed against Grgetich but would not comment on any future administrative actions.
Grgetich joined the Navy in 1983 as an undesignated seaman and came up through the ranks as a boatswain's mate. He has served on the fast combat support ship Sacramento, the dock landing ship Fort Fisher and has served with Amphibious Construction Battalion 1 and earned the Seabee combat warfare device.
Senior Chief Katy Willdigg has been named the interim CMC, SURFPAC said.
