Surface warriors who want big money for re-upping will have to wait a few months longer.

Officials are unable to process new requests after Dec. 16 for the Revised Surface Warfare Officer bonus, worth up to $75,000, for what could be a few months due to staffing issues, the chief of naval personnel said Wednesday. The delay does not affect bonus payments or officers who already have a contract.

"The lapse in writing new contracts is the result of staffing delays at the Chief of Naval Personnel," CNP said in a statement. "Navy leadership is confident that the bonus will be reauthorized and should be complete by mid-February."

The revised SWO Critical Skills Retention Bonus is paid out annually to officers with six years of commissioned service who are or will serve as department heads. Eligibility information can be found in NAVADMIN 156/12.

Officers with questions are encouraged to contact the SWO community managers at Navy Personnel Command at (901) 874-3173.
