LOS ANGELES — Owners of an experimental lighter-than-air ship destroyed when its Southern California hangar partially collapsed are suing the U.S. Navy for more than $65 million.
The suit was filed Monday in Los Angeles federal court.
The 266-foot-long Aeros cargo ship — a high tech version of a dirigible — was stored in a gigantic hangar at a former Marine Corps air base in Tustin when a chunk of roof collapsed in October 2013.
Aeroscraft Aeronautical Systems Corp. says the Navy was long aware that the World War II-era hangar needed critical repairs and has refused to cover damages.
The Navy says it will have comment later.
