A Navy F/A-18A Hornet assigned to the Fallon naval base in Nevada crashed about 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, according to a release from the Navy.

The pilot ejected from the aircraft and was recovered safely. The pilot is currently being evaluated at a local hospital.

The plane went down at the Fallon Range Training Complex, about 25 miles east of Naval Air Station Fallon.

The aircraft crashed in remote, mountainous terrain, according to the announcement.

The flight was part of a routine training mission conducted by NAWDC.

The cause is under investigation.
