The deputy commander of Carrier Air Wing 1 was relieved earlier this month after some off-duty misbehavior, Naval Air Forces Atlantic officials confirmed this week.

AIRLANT Cmdr. Dave Hecht would not specify the nature of the misconduct, but said Capt. Brent Blackmer was relieved on March 8 after an investigation found that “his actions during a liberty incident on Feb. 1 reflected poor judgement and failure to meet and uphold personal and professional standards.”

Hecht declined to specify the nature of Blackmer’s actions, but said they occurred while on liberty in Norfolk, Virginia.

Capt Robert Gentry has taken over as the wing’s executive officer, Hecht said.

“We hold our officers to the highest standards of conduct,” he said.

An aviator, Blackmer came to the wing in October 2016.

Based in Virginia, the wing embarked all nine of its squadrons aboard the carrier Harry S. Truman last year.
