A sailor is in stable condition after suffering an “accidental discharge to the right leg” from a military firearm on Tuesday morning at Naval Station Norfolk, Virginia, authorities say.
Naval Station Norfolk spokeswoman Kelly Wirfel told Navy Times that the incident involved an unidentified second class master-at-arms and he was shot with the military weapon around 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Security Training Building (CEP-160).
She said he has been transported to Norfolk General Hospital and authorities are investigating the shooting.
