An explosive ordnance disposal chief was demoted last month after pleading guilty to assault and drug charges, Navy officials confirmed this week.
At a special court-martial, then-Chief Explosive Ordnance Disposalman Sean M. Conley pleaded guilty to dereliction of duty in transporting training aids, wrongful use of a controlled substance and assault consummated by battery charges, according to Navy spokeswoman Lt. Kristi Johnson.
A military judge sentenced Conley on April 12 to 60 days of confinement and reduction to E-6, she said.
During a separate hearing at a summary court-martial, Conley’s pretrial agreement saw him plead guilty to wrongful distribution of a controlled substance, wrongful distribution of an intimate image and assault consummated by battery charges, Johnson said.
That proceeding ended on April 17 with Conley being sentenced to reduction in rank to E-6 as well, she said.

Conley pleaded guilty in the two forums as part of pretrial agreements, Johnson said.
The charges against Conley largely centered around a few days in September of 2018 while he was assigned to Explosive Ordnance Disposal Mobile Unit 2 at Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek.
He was charged with distributing “an intimate visual image,” attacking a sailor with a shovel, doling out Adderall, abusing marijuana and pushing a woman to the ground, according to Navy charge sheets.
